4D

We were introduced to the final part of this brief as creating a Motion Graphic that would play behind the artists as they preform.

I brainstormed ideas from all the inspiration Dwayne talked us through.

first thing that came to my head was the Take me out music video from Franz Ferdinand.

With these ideas I knew what I was gonna do would be grunge-y, include collages and body horror to match my album covers.

This first idea would involve a collage style animation, done by either cut-out animation or by hand editing the film on After Effects.

The song I chose was 'Thats What You Get' by Paramore, with the female singer I wanted to include a female character like seen in my photography and collage art I did for my bands albums.

Despite my lack of experience with animation I did want to achieve a short 2d animated clip to add to my animation.

I thought it would be easier to include this type of animation if I had a character to go off, so I looked for demons/myths that included females with a body horror aspect, I found a Dodmeki which is a female Japanese demon which has very long arms that are covered in eyes. The story goes that it was stigmatise people with long arms were thieves which explains the eyes as peoples judgement and hatred towards the woman.

My next step was to create a story and storyboard that I can use to actually execute my film.

I needed a solid idea that i could use to storyboard the actual events of the film.

I numbered and sectioned the parts of the song which stood out to me as transitions between events/movements. Then with these numbered I planned out two ideas. I favoured the second idea as it went with the song and the lyrics better.

Storyboard:

Going by the different scenes I depicted in my storyboard I created a stop motion graphic, afterwords I went in and added my collage aspects I wanted to include, as well as the short animation I created. I also drew on the eyes that appear during the chorus.

I created an intro as well, with flashing images on a collage backdrop. I edited in eyes to appear on screen as the instrumental plays.

These are some of the collage images I used.

I finished a first draft of my video and asked for feedback from zoe and dwayne. Dwayne said to experiment more as much as I can and definitely put the whole video up on a professional software. Zoe said to focus on the transition between scenes and gave me some good ideas to do that.
